Court stops Lagos CP from declaring Sowore wanted

“I just left the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, where the court restrained the incompetent CP of @policeng Lagos Command, Moshood Jimoh, from declaring Omoyele Sowore WANTED,” he wrote.

The ruling follows an ongoing legal face-off between Sowore and the Nigerian Police Force, which he accuses of “unlawful intimidation and political persecution.”

In a recent fundamental rights enforcement suit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and CP Jimoh, Sowore sought judicial protection after being allegedly declared wanted for his involvement in a protest.

The suit, marked FHC/L/CS/1923/2025, argued that the police action was illegal, defamatory, and aimed at silencing his activism. He asked the court to prevent further harassment, arrest, or any public labeling that could endanger his life and reputation, while also seeking damages for the violation of his rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

Reacting to the judgment, Sowore hailed it as a “victory for democracy” and a reminder that “no one is above the law,” accusing the Lagos police of using their authority to suppress dissenting voices.

As of press time, the Lagos State Police Command had yet to issue an official response to the ruling.
