New York City officially has a new mayor-elect: Zohran Mamdani. His historic victory marks the first time a Muslim person will hold the city’s highest office. The 34-year-old is set to take over for Eric Adams on Jan. 1, 2026.
Mamdani announced his win last night before a cheering crowd of New Yorkers, promising to bring back affordability to the city that they love.
“Let the words we’ve spoken together, the dreams we’ve dreamt together, become the agenda we deliver together. New York, this power, it’s yours. This city belongs to you,” Mamdani said in his victory speech before exiting stage left to a Bollywood song.
Celebrations took place across all five boroughs — from champagne toasts and street dance parties to what social media users are calling “hope scrolling.” The excitement even spilled over onto Amazon’s shelves, where a new children’s book influenced by Mamdani’s campaign has quickly climbed the charts.
Titled Zohran Walks New York, the 32-page hardcover explores Mamdani’s journey through the city during the 2025 mayoral race.
According to the official description: “Zohran Mamdani has walked through the streets of New York City since he was a child, and at every crosswalk, there’s something new to celebrate. From a Mets game at Citi Field to a polar bear plunge at Coney Island, the city is filled with adventures waiting to be had. This joyful picture book for ages 4–8 is inspired by his noted thirteen-mile mayoral campaign walk.”
Written by Millie von Platen, the book retails for $18.99 on Amazon. Though aimed at young readers, we think it also works as a great collector’s item for all ages — a keepsake to remember this moment in history (even if you’re just watching from afar, in some place like Wisconsin).
Early reviews have been glowing, with readers awarding multiple five-star ratings. One customer wrote:
“This is a fun, energetic book, and the author’s brightly colored illustrations truly capture the vibrant excitement of this great city. My favorite part was the Polar Bear Plunge into the frigid waters off Coney Island on New Year’s Day.”
Copies are selling quickly, but fans can also show their support with the official Zohran Mamdani campaign sweatshirt, now on sale for over 15% off. Rep your city pride loud and proud, because, as the saying goes, “this is the concrete jungle where dreams are made of.”
