Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of spreading falsehood about an alleged “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, describing him as a leader with deep-seated hostility toward Africa

<p>He argued that the widespread killings across the country stem from criminality, economic motives, and resource-based disputes rather than religion.</p>
<p>“He said about 3,100 Christians have been killed in Nigeria. When you look at the narrative of Mr. Trump, and match it with what is on ground, the killers — terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or gunmen — do not care about religion. What they care about is ransom or control. So, it’s not about religion,” he explained.</p>
<p>According to Falana, the persistent violence in Benue and Plateau states is largely tied to land and grazing conflicts. “Those who are killing there are either killing to expropriate land or to feed their animals,” he noted.</p>
<p>The senior lawyer also urged the Federal Government not to overreact to Trump’s recent threat of military action against Nigeria but to focus on addressing its own security lapses.</p>
<p>“Instead of losing sleep over Trump’s statement, the government has a duty to look inwards; where have we made errors?” Falana said.</p>
<p>He further accused Trump of using Nigeria to pursue a broader geopolitical agenda aimed at undermining Africa’s sovereignty and global partnerships.</p>
<p>“I know him, I know his antics, I know his hatred for Africa. This matter is about the resources of our country. The same people pushing this narrative are the ones saying we must cut China to size in Africa. We need to understand the geopolitical motives and our government’s own mistakes,” Falana added.</p>
<p>His remarks came amid rising diplomatic tension following Trump’s directive to prepare for possible military intervention in Nigeria.</p>
