Google regularly rolls out security patches to secure your privacy on Android phones. A report shows that although iPhones are popularly thought to be very secure, they still need to learn from Android devices that stop more potential text message scams.

Google and YouGov surveyed about 5,000 smartphone users in the US, India, and Brazil to study how different phones handle spam texts. The results showed that Android users got fewer scam and fraudulent messages than iPhone users due to AI detection tools on their devices.
According to the report, 58% of Android users were more likely to report not receiving any scam texts than iOS users, with Pixel owners having 96% chances of zero scam texts. While Android users would describe their phone’s scam protection as very effective or extremely effective, iPhone owners would likely describe their scam protection as ineffective in blocking mobile fraud.
Another research by Counterpoint shows that Android phones have stronger AI-powered protections than iPhones. After comparing Pixel, Samsung, Motorola, and Apple devices, it was discovered that Android provided AI protection across ten key security areas, while iPhone covered only two.
Leviathan Security Group conducted its study and found that of all Android devices, the Pixel 10 Pro had the highest level of default scam and fraud protection, with features like call screening and scam detection in Google Messages and Gmail. Google claims RCS stops potential scams before they are even sent, blocking over 100 million suspicious numbers in a month.
iPhones are generally thought to be very secure devices with the different restrictions imposed by Apple, but it turns out that all those don’t really count in preventing scams. Google Android phones are still way ahead of iPhones in terms of security. Apple can take a leaf from that.
