The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has appealed to citizens of the state, both at home and abroad, to return in large numbers for the coming Christmas celebrations, assuring them of safety and peace throughout the festive season
Speaking after what has been widely described as the most peaceful and successful governorship election in the state’s history, Orutugu said the outcome was clear proof that Anambra now enjoys a stable security environment.
Orutugu, who assumed duty nine months ago as the 35th Commissioner of Police in the state, noted that his command’s proactive and community-centred approach to policing has helped to consolidate peace across all local government areas.
“Anambra is safe. Come home for Christmas,” he declared confidently.
The Police chief explained that the command’s security success was built on sustained community engagement, visible patrols, and intelligence-driven operations.
Renowned for his people-focused style, CP Orutugu said his philosophy of “policing without guns” emphasises empathy, counselling, and appealing to citizens’ conscience rather than relying solely on force.
He said the command has deepened cooperation with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and religious figures to ensure the early sharing of intelligence and strengthen public trust in the police.
Orutugu added that his team’s “flashpoint deployment strategy” — which identifies and secures areas prone to criminal activity — has kept all border and high-risk communities under close protection.
