Earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed a number of cast members would be returning for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie including Jack Black (Bowser), Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). During a new Direct shared earlier today (November 12), two more names were added to the cast list.

Nintendo superfan Brie Larson is set to voice “cosmic protector” and fan-favourite Princess Rosalina while Benny Safdie will voice Bowser Jr., “a villain with galactic ambition”.

The first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has also been released, which sees Bowser Jr. rescuing his father from the clutches of Mario and Luigi following the events of the first film, while Princess Peach and Toad head to space via warp stars.

Bowser Jr. was first introduced in 2002’s Super Mario Sunshine and is a recurring boss in Super Mario Galaxy. Rosalina was first introduced in Galaxy as the adoptive mother of the star-like Lumas.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2024, Larson said: “I think I’ve probably played every Nintendo game that’s ever come out at this point, and so it’s just part of my life. It always has been.”

“If I had a nickel for every time Brie Larson played a very powerful space woman helping out humans I would have two nickels,” wrote one fan, referencing Larson’s turn as Captain Marvel in the MCU. “Her voice is perfect as well from what we’ve gotten in the trailer,” added another.
