President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent k!lling of Nigerian Army personnel and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State
The President’s feelings were conveyed in a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The attacks, carried out by ISWAP terrorists, claimed the lives of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” Tinubu said, offering condolences to the military and the families of the victims.
He also expressed anguish over the disruption of education for schoolgirls in Kebbi State. “I am also depressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed the security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State,” he added.
The President confirmed that security agencies have been instructed to ensure the safe release of the abducted students and asked Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi to console the state government and parents.
Tinubu further urged community leaders and residents in security-challenged areas to provide information that could assist the military, police, and DSS in their operations.
Meanwhile, Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Idris said the abduction occurred despite prior intelligence from the DSS warning of a possible attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. He hinted at sabotage by an unnamed security agency and announced the formation of a special panel to investigate the incident.
