The bandits who kidnapped 38 worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have reportedly demanded N100 million ransom per victim

The abductors have now begun contacting families of the hostages, according to a community leader, Chief Olusegun Olukotun, the Olori Eta of Eruku. Four of his relatives are among those taken.

According to the Leadership, Olukotun explained that he was inside the church with five family members when the armed men invaded during the Tuesday evening service. He and one of his wards managed to escape through a window around 6:06 p.m., while the attackers rounded up others and opened fire, leaving five worshippers dead on the spot.

He confirmed that the kidnappers have divided the abductees into smaller groups based on family ties and are using that system to reach out for ransom demands.

“People in the community have started receiving calls from them. They are asking for N100 million for each person. For my own relatives, I’m yet to receive a call, but others have,” he said.

The attack, carried out on November 18, has thrown the entire community into fear and distress as families await further contact while hoping the abducted worshippers are returned safely.
