Abia Governor Alex Otti’s convoy were attacked by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, a few kilometres from Sam Mbakwe Airport, when the vehicle carrying the three officials, who were part of an advance team, came under fire from fleeing gunmen.

Njoku Ukoha, Otti’s Chief Press Secretary, confirmed the attack in a statement, stressing that the governor was not involved.
He said, “In the early hours of today, December 2nd, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen. The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport junction in Imo State.”
Ukoha added that no casualties were recorded and the governor’s convoy was not affected.
