Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has rolled out an extensive empowerment package for fast-rising gospel artiste, Chris Vic, in a gesture that has stirred widespread reactions
The governor made the announcement via his official X handle on Sunday, celebrating the young singer’s inspiring journey after he clinched third place at the De9ja Spirit Talent Hunt, a national competition created in 2021 to spotlight and support emerging talents across Nigeria’s creative industry.
As part of the support, Eno disclosed that a choice parcel of land has been approved for Vic in Uyo, the state capital. A four-bedroom apartment is to be constructed on the property, with the Certificate of Occupancy set to be formally presented next week.
Beyond housing, the governor also approved N100 million for the establishment of a fully equipped music studio for the singer, clarifying that this funding is entirely separate from the cost of the land and building project. Chris Vic will also enjoy a monthly stipend of N1 million from the state government throughout Eno’s time in office.
“I have directed the Commissioner for Lands to allocate a plot of land in Uyo to Chris Vic, and I will sign the Certificate of Occupancy next week. We will also build him a four-bedroom flat and commit ₦100 million to set up his music studio. This is separate from the cost of the land and the house. In addition, as long as I remain Governor, he will receive a monthly allowance of ₦1 million.”
Describing the intervention as a reflection of faith, resilience, and hope, the governor added that the story of Chris Vic is a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness, even in tough times. He also used the opportunity to reassure persons with disabilities of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
“Let this remind us that even in difficult moments, God is still good. Chris Vic shows us that praise is possible in every situation. I also want him, and all persons with disabilities, to know that this government cares.”
In an earlier interview with the organisers of the talent hunt, Chris Vic shared that he lost his sight at the age of five following complications from a failed glaucoma surgery. He explained that music eventually became his safe haven and purpose in life, a gift he believes was divinely planted and nurtured through adversity.
