The new Nubia Fold is going all out on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, challenging it in every area, from a bigger battery to a cheaper price tag. It’s a more affordable version of everything you’d expect from an expensive foldable.

According to Notebookcheck, the Nubia Fold packs an impressive 6,560mAh battery. That’s good enough for a regular smartphone, and for a foldable, that’s more than enough. It makes it the largest battery a foldable has ever had, significantly outperforming the 4,400mAh of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
For a foldable that beats the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and tops the list with the largest battery, you’d think it would be more expensive. The Nubia Fold launched in Japan at a price of ¥178,560 (about $1,150). You’d be getting a book-style foldable running the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for that price compared to Samsung’s $1,920 deal. The Nubia Fold is proof that foldables don’t have to be expensive to offer premium specs.
A large battery isn’t the only appeal. The device features an expansive 8-inch OLED main display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a usable 6.5-inch cover screen. Even with the big battery, the Nubia Fold measures in at 5.4mm unfolded and 11.1mm folded.
Now for the trade-offs
With a foldable too good to be true, there are bound to be trade-offs for such impressive features, starting with the cameras. Instead of the periscope zooms and high-end sensors found on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the Nubia Fold sticks to a more low-key setup: a 50MP main, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 5MP macro sensor.
Another is durability. The phone comes with an IP54 rating that can handle dust and a splash of water, compared to the IP68-rated Galaxy Z Fold 7, which can handle falling in the pool.
For now, the Nubia Fold is only available in Japan. If it gets to other regions, Samsung and other brands may be forced to reconsider their prices and battery choices for future models to maintain their market.
