There seems to be a change of plan for Motorola’s flagship phones. A new rumour suggests that the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra might come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, instead of the Elite-class chip we expected.

The upcoming smartphone will continue Motorola’s biennial cycle for its Ultra models. According to an X post from Evan Blass, a device internally codenamed “Urus” may arrive as a balanced flagship rather than a full-blown power beast.
Motorola Edge 70 Ultra specs
According to Geekbench results for the upcoming phone (model XT2603-1), it had single-core and multi-core scores of about 2,636 and 7,475, respectively. While these scores show high-speed performance, there is still a significant gap from what an Elite-class silicon will offer.
The flagship packs 16GB of RAM. The first benchmark run ranks its performance right between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite. It was unclear then what chip actually powered the phone, but new leaks have cleared the mystery.
While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 remains the newest Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is still the fastest. The Elite line is known for maximum performance. Motorola’s upcoming Edge 70 Ultra promises cinematic photography and high performance.
A recent leak points to a 1.5K OLED screen and a periscope-style telephoto camera. The Edge 70 Ultra is definitely an Android to face other flagship smartphones head-on. The launch date for the Edge 70 Ultra is drawing nearer, but there isn’t an official date for now. Though, rumours suggest a global launch in 2026.
