Armed bandits attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, early Sunday, December 14, 2025, leaving one person dead and several worshippers reportedly abducted
The victim, identified only as Jayjay, was killed during the assault. The exact number of those kidnapped is still unclear as local authorities and security operatives continue to assess the situation.

This incident comes weeks after another church attack in the region, heightening fears among residents and worshippers. On November 30, 2025, armed men stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, abducting the cleric Orlando and several worshippers during a service. The attackers initially demanded ₦500 million in ransom, later reducing it to ₦200 million, and issued a two-day ultimatum to the victims’ families, threatening unspecified consequences if the demand was not met.
Residents also recalled that Ayetoro Kiri was targeted about three weeks ago when armed assailants attempted to attack a local school. At that time, the community vigilante group reportedly repelled the attackers, preventing casualties and abductions.
The latest assault has reignited concerns over the worsening security situation in Okun land, with locals calling on the Kogi State Government and security agencies to take urgent measures to protect lives and prevent further attacks.
