President Donald Trump has signed a new Proclamation expanding US travel controls, placing partial entry restrictions on citizens of 15 additional countries as part of tightened security measures
The decision, approved on Tuesday, is aimed at strengthening travel screening and national security standards.
The newly added countries under partial restrictions are Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Under the Proclamation, full travel restrictions remain in force for the 12 countries previously classified as high risk. These are Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
The order also expands the list of countries facing complete entry bans following updated security reviews. Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan and Syria have been added to the full restriction category, alongside individuals travelling with documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.
In addition, Laos and Sierra Leone, which were earlier subject to partial limits, have now been upgraded to full restrictions. Partial restrictions continue to apply to Burundi, Cuba, Togo and Venezuela.
