The latest update for the newly released OnePlus 15 comes with error corrections and performance improvements, including refresh rate.

OnePlus 15

Previously, this refresh rate was just accessible on a bunch of games, with every other thing at 120Hz. With version 16.0.1.305, OnePlus 15 users can access the full 165Hz that the display is capable of in three additional apps: WhatsApp, Instagram, and X.

To access this new feature of 165Hz for the three apps, you have to enable the Developer Options, which isn’t a complex process. One thing to note, though, is that this can cause issues with some bank apps that won’t work unless the mode is disabled.

Also, it’s very odd the way the feature is implemented after it is enabled, because you won’t be able to get a dynamic refresh rate in these apps once this mode is enabled. When there’s no activity, the display remains pinned at 165Hz instead of reducing to 1Hz to slow down power drain.

The upgrade is a complicated one. It would be much better if the company provided the option to enable the full 165Hz in the Screen Refresh Rate setting under the Display & Brightness menu. With the current setting, most users don’t know it exists because it’s hidden. It should be made a default setting and not one available by manual selection for select apps and buried within arcane settings.

Version 16.0.1.305 is now rolling out to OnePlus 15 units in India, and should be available to other regions shortly. OnePlus 15 has received its first upgrade and is now available worldwide.
