The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight individuals following a disruption of public peace in Sango-Ota linked to the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba group.
The suspects face allegations including unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and assault on police officers
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, December 25, at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge area of Sango-Ota, where members of the group allegedly blocked roads, set bonfires, and disrupted vehicular movement. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Friday.
Babaseyi said: “On 25th December 2025, Christmas Day, at Temidire Junction and Under-Bridge, Sango-Ota, a group agitating under the aegis of ‘Democratic Republic of the Yoruba’ unlawfully barricaded roads, set bonfires, disrupted the free flow of traffic, and attacked police officers deployed to maintain law and order.”
He added that police operatives were promptly deployed to restore calm and successfully dispersed the group, arresting the following suspects: Adewale Sosanya, 48; Opeyemi Oladotun, 31; Zara Gabriel, 22; Ajoke Gabriel, 19; Adewale Adebomojo, 48; Yusuf Tanimowo, 40; Olurotimi Ademola, 52; and Toyin Gabriel, 40.
During the operation, several items were recovered, including a Toyota Dyna vehicle used by the suspects, two broadcast speakers, a carton of flags, shirts with inscriptions related to their agitation, and banners displaying their messages and manifesto.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court following the conclusion of investigations.
CP Lanre Ogunlowo, Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining security and warned that attacks on law enforcement officers would be met with decisive measures. He also urged the public to remain law-abiding and to report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines.
