Cape Town named among world’s top 20 cities for Gen Z to live in

Cape Town, South Africa, has been ranked among the world’s 20 best cities for Gen Z to live in, placing third globally in a report by Time Out.

The ranking is drawn from Time Out’s annual Best Cities survey, which is based on responses from more than 18,500 residents worldwide. For this edition, the data was filtered to include only respondents under the age of 30, highlighting the cities where the next generation feels most at home.

In Cape Town, 82% of Gen Z respondents said they are happy living in the city. The coastal hub scored highly for beauty, with 71% describing it as visually stunning, while 76% said going out for drinks is affordable. About 62% also rated the city as an exciting place to live.

Bangkok, Thailand, topped the ranking, buoyed by strong scores in happiness and affordability. About 84% of Gen Z residents in the Thai capital said they are happy living there, while 71% described the city as budget-friendly.

Melbourne, Australia, placed second, with 77% of Gen Z respondents saying the city is diverse and inclusive, and an impressive 96% praising its arts and culture scene.

Thousands of young people shared their views on life in their cities, helping Time Out identify the places where Gen Z feels happiest, most inspired, and best supported.
