The Ojibara of Bayagan in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, and six other abductees have reportedly escaped from their captors

According to Vanguard, sources from the community said the monarch and the others managed to flee following a fierce attack by vigilantes who stormed the forest where the bandits held them.

“The vigilante team engaged the bandits in a heavy battle around the Eku Idaji area, near Igbaja. While the Baale and the six escapees have not yet returned to the community, they have made contact with residents to confirm their escape,” a source said.

The bandits had earlier demanded N150 million from the community for the monarch’s release. Vanguard had learned Sunday morning that the abductors contacted the community in the early hours to insist on the ransom, requiring Oba Ojibara to prove he was in their custody.

According to sources, the monarch urged his community to negotiate for his release, describing how he was taken on a motorcycle through dense forests for over five hours before reaching the bandits’ hideout. He also revealed that others were abducted from a neighboring community during the incident.

Bayagan is one of the larger communities in Ifelodun LGA. The monarch was kidnapped around 9:30 am on Saturday when armed bandits, reportedly carrying AK-47 rifles, stormed his farm.
