Mohamed Salah has publicly opened up on his growing frustration at Liverpool, admitting that his relationship with new head coach Arne Slot has collapsed and that he now feels pushed aside by the club
The Egyptian star has been left on the bench for three consecutive matches, including Saturday’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Leeds United, where he didn’t feature at all. The decision has clearly taken a toll on the forward, who has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances for the Reds.
After the game, Salah did not hold back during a tense exchange with journalists. “It is very clear that someone wanted me to take all the blame. I had a good relationship with the manager before and now we don’t have any relationship at all. I don’t know why, but it feels like someone doesn’t want me at the club,” he stated. “It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus.”
Despite the disappointment, Salah stressed that his loyalty to Liverpool remains unshaken. “This club, I will always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much and I always will,” he said. Still, he admitted the situation is becoming unbearable. “It is not acceptable to me. I don’t get it. I feel like I’m being pushed more under the bus. I don’t think I’m the problem. I have done so much for this club.”
The forward also addressed questions about competition for places, insisting he should not have to constantly prove himself again. “I don’t have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it. I am not bigger than anyone, but I earned my position. It’s football. It is what it is.”
Salah, who is set to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 15, also admitted uncertainty over his future at Anfield, despite signing a new two-year contract in April.
