The World Cup group stage is set following this weekend’s final draw at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Hosting duties for the World Cup are split between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and the U.S. Men’s National Team will face Paraguay in its first group-stage match at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. It’s the first time since 1994 that the United States has hosted the World Cup.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, securing tickets has proven to be a complicated and expensive project. Here’s what you need to know about buying World Cup Tickets.
World Cup Random Selection Draw
The World Cup random selection draw begins on Dec. 11, when fans can apply for tickets. The random selection draw runs through Jan. 13. Now that the matches are set, fans will be able to buy single-match tickets by team and venue. Following the random selection sale, FIFA will open a last-minute sales phase closer to the game for fans to buy tickets.
Nearly two million tickets have already been sold through the first two phases, and FIFA has opened its own resale market for fans to buy tickets. The resale marketplace is currently closed, as of Dec. 4. It will reopen on Dec. 15 at 11:00 am ET.
Ticket Resale
If you don’t want to wait for the FIFA resale, another option is to check out third-party resellers. There’s risk involved with third-party resale, due to the prevalence of speculative tickets, or tickets resellers list without having on hand. Major resale sites like StubHub and Vivid Seats have policies in place to protect fans in case they don’t get into the venue.
Unsurprisingly, prices vary considerably by team and venue.
StubHub: Tickets for the U.S. vs. Paraguay game start at around $1,500. Tickets for Iran vs. New Zealand, meanwhile start at around $500. See tickets here.
SeatGeek: The cheapest tickets for the Austria vs. Jordan game, taking place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, start at just under $300. Canada’s group stage home match at BMO Field in Toronto starts at $1,827. See tickets here.
Vivid Seats: Vivid Seats currently lists the Austria vs. Jordan game at around $279 on the low end. On the high end, the to-be-determined final starts at $8,477. See tickets here.
