The All Progressives Congress (APC) scored a shocking victory over the Labour Party (LP) at the polling unit of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, as early results from Amatutu village in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, began to trickle in
At Polling Unit 019, Umudimakasi, where Obi cast his vote, APC polled 73 votes to defeat Labour Party’s 57. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) followed with 38 votes, while smaller parties — YPP, ZLP, APM, ADC, and AAC — each recorded a single vote.
The outcome, unexpected in Obi’s traditional stronghold, has stirred intense reactions online, with many supporters expressing disbelief over his loss in his own polling unit.
Interestingly, APC’s governorship running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, also hails from the same area.
At Polling Unit 015, Amatutu Village Hall, APC further consolidated its dominance with 117 votes, leaving APGA with 29 and Labour Party with just 10. Similarly, at Polling Unit 023, Model Primary Health Care Centre, APC maintained the lead with 25 votes, while APGA and Labour Party managed 8 and 7 votes respectively; YPP and ADC scored one vote each.
The APC’s sweeping performance across multiple polling units suggests the party may be gaining momentum in Anaocha — a zone long considered a bastion of APGA and, more recently, Labour Party influence.
Collation of results is still underway across the local government and Anambra State.
