I'm not aware soldiers used live bullet on #EndSARS protesters - Lai Mohammed

Former Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed has said he was unaware that soldiers fired live ammunition at protesters during the #EndSARS demonstration at Lekki Toll Gate in 2020

Mohammed made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. He stated that the Federal Government had access to detailed security reports at the time and that he maintained regular communication with the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Staff throughout the protests.

According to him, soldiers deployed to the Lekki Toll Gate were given blank rounds, not live bullets, and those involved in the operation are still alive.

“See, at the Federal Government level, we had access to information that no one else had. I was continuously in touch with the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Staff throughout those operations,” he said.

“I know for a fact that soldiers were issued blank bullets when they went to the Lekki Toll Gate. The actors are still alive today. Honestly, I am not aware that the military used live bullets on protesters, but I know that there was no massacre at the Lekki Toll Gate. There was a lot of fake news and misinformation, but the truth is that nobody can show me a verified case of anyone being killed there.”

Mohammed maintained that claims of a massacre were fueled by misinformation, challenging anyone to provide evidence of deaths at the protest site.
