Nigerian entrepreneur Obinwanne Okeke, popularly known as Invictus Obi, has been released from prison in the United States, nearly four years before the end of his 10-year sentence for fraud.
According to the US Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) website, Okeke was no longer in custody as of Wednesday, December 23, 2025, with the status listed as “Not in BOP Custody as of: 12/23/2025.”
Okeke was sentenced in February 2021 to a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to charges related to an $11 million fraud scheme. Based on the original sentence, he was expected to remain in prison until September 3, 2028. Details of his release, including whether it involved supervised release or other provisions, have not been independently confirmed.
The entrepreneur, who was arrested by the FBI at Dulles International Airport in 2019, was implicated in an email compromise scheme targeting Unatrac Holding Limited, the export sales office for Caterpillar heavy industrial and farm equipment.
In 2018, a Unatrac executive fell victim to a phishing email that allowed the conspirators to access login credentials, submit fraudulent wire transfer requests, and attach fake invoices.
Okeke, who was once named among Forbes’ 100 Most Influential Young Africans, rose to prominence as a tech entrepreneur before his arrest and conviction.
